I decided to put the concrete giraffes in a more natural setting. After selecting the giraffes, I tried various methods to isolate the fur pattern and ended up tracing most of it manually. I ended up with separate layers for the lines, the background color, the hooves, the ankles and a desaturated copy of the original. Working with the blend modes, I allowed some of each to show through. The background is a stock photo of acacia trees with the graphic pen filter applied.
