The
mirror pieces reminded me of regular mosaic tiles, so
I attempted to transform the three-dimensional horse into
a flat mosaic. I used the smart-blur filter to extract
the edges, then used them to cut up a solid version of
the horse into pieces. An emboss style was then applied
to the resulting 'tiles'.
The outer ring of tiles was added by hand -- I used a
selection of the intact horse, expanded it, then subtracted
the original figure, leaving a uniform-width ring. I added
a stroke around the entire selection and then drew in
the cross lines to simulated tiles. These lines were then
used as before to slice up a color layer and an emboss
style was added. The background was constructed in the
same fashion using the tile fill pattern.
