The griffin reminded me of the gargoyles we saw in Paris this summer. I selected the griffin, repaired the wing and paint, desaturated it and then colorized it using color adjustment layers. The background is from a photo I took of the north wall of Notre Dame -- the complete set is here. The overall look is poster edges with very low settings. The font is Engravers.
